The Mayo Clinic describes Depression as... 

...a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression it affects how you feel think and behave and can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems. You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities and sometimes you may feel as if life isn't worth living.

More than just a bout of the blues depression isn't a weakness and you can't simply snap out of it. Depression may require long-term treatment. But don't get discouraged. Most people with depression feel better with medication psychotherapy or both.

And our Depression Rabbit tries to capture some of these ideas through its blue color stubby limbs (indicating loss of interest) broken heart motif and round shape (for that feeling that you can barely even roll around much less walk). While this might not exactly mirror your experience with depression (everyone is different!) Depression Rabbit can still provide soft cuddles when you most need them.

That's why our design team only creates plushies related to mental health issues with which they have direct experience. In cases where our team does not have direct experience we assemble an external team of experts to help guide our creative process. In addition we use Crowd Design to engage a wide range of voices via platforms like Instagram and Facebook. We gather and respond to feedback from our audience - many of whom have direct experience with the mental health issues we're exploring. And while we strive to represent as many aspects of a particular mental health issue as possible while avoiding stereotypical symptoms we hope you understand that plush toys as an artistic medium do limit the full expression of a particular issue to those things that can be crafted in fabric and stitching.
